The Opportunity

We are seeking a values-aligned Policy Intern to join our team on a part-time basis. This role offers exceptional exposure to high-level policy work and client relationships - ideal for a student or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in progressive advocacy. You'll work closely with senior staff while learning about coalition building, legislative processes, and strategic communications.

Core Responsibilities

Research & Analysis Support

• Conduct research on policy issues and legislative developments

• Assist with policy analysis and review of proposed legislation

• Help prepare briefing materials and reports for clients

• Support database management and information organization

Coalition & Communications Support

• Assist with coalition meeting coordination and follow-up

• Help maintain relationships with stakeholder organizations

• Support social media content creation and outreach efforts

• Assist with event planning and logistics

Administrative & Project Support

• Help coordinate meetings and schedules

• Provide general administrative support to the team

• Assist with various projects as needed

• Support office operations in a remote work environment

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications

• Strong writing skills with attention to detail

• Coursework in political science, public policy, or related fields

• Volunteer experience with campaigns, advocacy organizations, or community groups

We are seeking a Part-Time Social Media Manager to join our digital team, reporting to our Digital Media Manager. This role is perfect for an agency-experienced professional who thrives in fast-paced environments and has their finger on the pulse of social media trends. You'll manage content across multiple client accounts, turning around creative, engaging posts quickly while maintaining brand consistency and quality.

Core Responsibilities

Content Strategy & Creation

• Develop and execute social media strategies for multiple client accounts

• Create engaging content across platforms (Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn)

• Design graphics and visual content using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite

• Write compelling copy that translates policy issues into accessible, shareable content

• Plan and schedule content calendars aligned with campaign goals

Community Management & Engagement

• Monitor social media channels and respond to comments and messages

• Engage with coalition partners, supporters, and relevant organizations

• Identify and leverage trending topics and hashtags relevant to our causes

• Build relationships with influencers and advocates in progressive spaces

• Track engagement metrics and adjust strategies accordingly

Campaign Support

• Support rapid-response communications during legislative sessions and campaigns

• Create content for specific advocacy pushes and coalition efforts

• Collaborate with policy team to ensure accurate messaging

• Develop digital assets for events, rallies, and advocacy actions

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications

• 2+ years of agency social media experience managing multiple client accounts

• Strong visual design skills and proficiency with design tools

• Excellent writing abilities with talent for making complex issues accessible

• Deep understanding of social media platforms and their unique audiences

• Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish preferred but not required)

• Self-motivated with ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Preferred Experience

• Experience with advocacy campaigns or political communications

• Background working with coalitions or multiple organizational clients

• Knowledge of Illinois politics and policy landscape

• Familiarity with social media management tools (Hootsuite, Buffer, etc.)

• Understanding of digital organizing and online community building

• Experience creating content for diverse audiences and communities
